Hi folks, how is everything going.  Well, for those of you who know me, and know my Supreme Session travel woes, things have not improved a whole lot.  Our group, consisting of Katie Underwood, Katie Rodemacher, Mom Toni Underwood, Mom Kathy Rodemacher and Dad Rodger Rodemacher, headed for Grand Rapids this morning about 8:30 a.m.  We were making great time until we hit Joliet, Illinois.  At that point the highway went down to 1 lane.  Traffic was backed up for several miles, and what should have been a 15 minute trip though town turned into a 2 hour plus, 103 degree nightmare.  At one point we were actually passed by 2 guys pushing their car.   Oh well, so what is new.  We finally got past the traffic and finally made our way to Grand Rapids about 10:30 Eastern Time.  We got into the hotel and discovered that the televisions in the whole place were not working.  Well, that wasn't too bad as we were all tired and hungry.  TV was the last thing on our minds.  The group decided they wanted Steak and Shake, so Dad Rodemacher and I made the late night dash to find Steak and Shake.  The girl at the front desk had given us directions, but after a fairly lengthy period of searching, we were unable to find the restaurant, but we found a Burger King about 10 miles from the hotel.  We got our food and headed back to the hotel, only to spot a Burger King about 1 block from the Hotel.  That figures.  Anyway, we ate our food and then hit the sack

Saturday, July 31

Saturday and Sunday were spent sightseeing and doing lots of fun stuff.   On Saturday we went to Holland, Michigan, were they have several old time Dutch attractions.  We visited a 200 year old windmill.  It was very interesting.   We watched a wooden shoe dance show, and it was amazing how nimble the dancers were while wearing the cumbersome looking wooden shoes.  Later, the two Katie's, and Mom Underwood and Rodemacher all tried their hands, or rather their feet, in some wooden shoe skis.  They weren't too successful, but they had a lot of fun.

After Holland, we traveled up the road to Muskegon to hit the Lake Michigan beach.  We didn't have much time there, so we made plans to come back on Sunday.

Sunday August 1

I went to the Gerald Ford museum directly across from our hotel, and had a very interesting visit.  Afterwards, we were about to head for Muskegon again when I discovered I had a flat tire.  It figures.  We switched plans, and Mrs. Cheryl Meyer drove Katie, Katie, Erin Lauderdale, and me to the Beach.  We had a fun day swimming and sunning.  In fact, a little too much sunning and this usually pasty looking guy is now the shade of a well done lobster.  We got back to the Hotel and I spent a lovely night with my sunburn scratching against the sheets.

Monday, August 2

Today we got down to work.  I spent the day working at the Supreme Bethel Registration Desk.  We had a rush of girls signing up in hopes of becoming Supreme Bethel Officers and Representatives.  This was really a fantastic day, getting to spend time with Job's Daughters from all over the world.  I spoke with Jobie's from the United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil, and the Philippines.  It was great.  Many of the Missouri girls did their ritual and music competitions today.   I'm sure that they all did a fantastic job.  I did get to break away from the registration desk long enough to play piano for Katie Rodemacher and Katie Underwood's singing competitions.  They both did a great job.  Later in the evening we had a fantastic Chinese dinner at the Hong Kong restaurant.  It was a most pleasant day.

Tuesday, August 3

Basically we had another long day at the Supreme Bethel Desk.  At times we were overwhelmed with girls wanting to sign up to be a Supreme Bethel Officer, Representative, or Installing Officer.  There are so many fantastic Jobies here, it is too bad we can't give them all a station.  We had more girls doing their competitions today.  During the evening several of the men went to a special lodge meeting.  A great ritual team for Michigan did a Master Mason Degree.  They did a really good job.  It is interesting to see the differences in the Masonic work from state to state.  Most of the girls went to the laser light dance.  They danced the night away and had a great time.  Again, a most enjoyable day.

Wednesday, August 4

Most of the day was spent again at the Supreme Bethel Registration desk.   By the time we shut down at 4:00, we had registered over 400 girls for Supreme Bethel offices and reps.  I know that this is starting to sound somewhat like a broken record (or these days should I say a warped CD), but it really is a great job.   Being Associate Supreme Bethel Guardian has been a rewarding experience and one I have truly enjoyed.  That evening the formal opening was held.  I played piano for the prelude to the opening as well as for the Opening march.  After that, the Supreme Bethel Committee met to get ready for the Supreme Bethel meeting on Thursday.

Thursday, August 5

The Supreme Bethel Meeting was held during the morning.  Supreme Bethel Honored Queen Heather Reardon did a fantastic job presiding.  The selection of new officers was held, and Susan Holmes from Nevada was chosen as the new Supreme Bethel Honored Queen.  Missouri was well represented as Mollie Petersen was selected as the Supreme Rep to Hawaii and Cabrina Smith as the Supreme Rep to Rio Grande do Norte.   Following the meeting, several of the girls went to the All Job's Daughters' Luncheon.  Later in the day, the Missouri-Michigan dinner was held.  During the meeting, we all wished Miss Missouri Kristen Goodman good luck in the Miss International Job's Daughter pageant.  She was presented with flowers and other gifts.  That evening we watched as Kristen was selected as one of the 12 Finalists.  Although she didn't win the competition, she represented Missouri well, and we were all proud of her.   Tracy Dahl from Washington was selected as Miss IJD, and Alida Bican from Minnesota was selected as Miss Congeniality.  Following the pageant, we all headed back to our respective rooms and hotels.

Friday, August 6

On Friday morning, I headed to the Supreme Council business session for the election of the new officers.  All of the line officers previously elected moved up the line as expected, and then Susan Mentel of Illinois was elected as the new Supreme Marshal and David Moffat from Utah was elected as the new Supreme Outer Guard.   Congratulations to them on their trip up the line.  In the afternoon, the rehearsal for the Supreme Bethel Installation was held.  The members of the Supreme Bethel Committee (Janine Coley, Don Miller, Rod Haney, and Linda Holmes) did a fantastic job getting everything ready.  That evening, the Supreme Bethel Installation was held, and SusanAnn Holmes was installed as the new Supreme Bethel Honored Queen.  Janine and Don were installed as the new Supreme Bethel Guardian and Supreme Bethel Associate Guardian respectively, and I was proud to present Don with his Supreme Bethel Associate Guardian's pin.  I would like to thank everyone for their support during my time as Associate Supreme Bethel Associate Guardian.  I hope I did a good job for you all.

Saturday, August 7

Saturday was sort of a rest day.  It was raining heavily so many took the opportunity to stay in and catch up on some much needed sleep.  That evening we went to the Supreme Council Installation.  Valerie Cooper of Idaho was installed as the new Supreme Guardian and John Smith of Virginia was installed as the new Associate Supreme Guardian.  They will do a great job.  Marlene Frakes and Doc Howe, past Supremes from Missouri, presented retiring Associate Supreme Guardian Bill Dinkmeyer with his Past Associate Supreme Guardian's pin.  That night brought the long week to a close.  It was a fantastic session, and I believe everyone who attended had a great time.
