Stuff to pack into the car (this isn't even our stuff, lol)

More stuff to pack into the car (This is our stuff :)

Well, once again Supreme Session is just around the corner.  I know that the folks in California have been working very hard, and I think that all of their efforts will pay off with a wonderful Session.  As last year, with my duties on the JDI Board of Trustees, I don't know how much I will be able to be out and about, but I will do my best to give everyone just a taste of all the wonderful activities that will be happening.

In addition to Session itself, this year we will be driving and plan on making a few stops along the way.  Places such as Oklahoma City, Flagstaff, Albuquerque (you know, the city where Bugs Bunny should have made a left) and Anaheim.  On the way home following session we plan to stop in Reno and Evanston.  What will we be seeing in those and other places along the way.  Well, I guess you're just gonna have to check back here from time to time to find out, lol.

Looks like it's gonna be a wild ride, just like Mr. Toad's wild ride at . . . shhhhh, I don't want to give anything away, now do I ;)  That's it for now, I'll be talking to you later :)

Molly watches the car being pack while thinking,
"Now, the house is all mine, Bwahahaha."

Back window?  What back window?

Hey everybody, I hope the beautiful Sunday morning finds everybody well and enjoying the Summer. We are gettting ready to hit the road. The car is packed (man is it ever packed) and we will be rolling out of here in just a little bit. I will post a pic of the car. It is very full. In fact it's a good thing I have lost some weight, otherwise I might be riding on the hood, lol. The plan today is to drive to Oklahoma City and stop for the evening there. Depending on how things go on the road I may or may not be able to add a couple of items to the diary. Until then take care and I'll talk to you later :)

Eva delivers the medicine

Neat decoration on the floor at the Petro in Joplin

Well, my Supreme Session travel curse struck early today.  About an hour and a half into the trip Toni suddenly realized that she had forgotten to pack my medicine.  Luckily she was able to get in touch with her sister Eva, who retrieved it and met us about halfway between St. Louis and the point at which we discovered it was missing.  Thanks Eva.  Well, if that's the worst part of the trip, things will be okay the rest of the way.

After that it was back on the road.  We had dinner at the Iron Skillet restaurant at the Petro Stop in Joplin, Missouri, and we have stopped for the night in Oklahoma City.  We'll be back on the road bright and early in the morning as we head for Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Well, I'm pretty tired so I'm gonna hit the sack.  Talk to everybody later :)

Mom Toni in her glamorous rain get-up

The Trading Post in Oklahoma

We got up bright and early and had breakfast at the motel.  Then it was time to get moving.  It was raining so Mom Toni donned a shower cap and my rams jacket to load the car.  You can catch a glimpse of her above.  Then it was on the road again.

We stopped at one of the many trading posts to check it out.  While there we spied a Mama Bison and her baby.  We watched them for a bit, took some pics and then it was once more on the highway.

. . . At the Big Texan

Hey everybody, I hope y'all are doing well. I'm in the car right now and we've done swept across the plains of Oklahoma and are now waltzing across Texas on our way to New Mexico. We just finished dinner at the Big Texan Restaurant in Amarillo. For those of you who don't know the Big Texan is the home of the 72 Ounce Steak Challenge. If you can finish the 72 ounce steak, a salad, baked potato and shrimp cocktail in an hour, you get the whole shooting match for free. No, I did not try it. There was a day when I could've taken this fellow to the mat, but just like walking without assistance, those days have passed. I had the normal sized 8 ounce strip steak, baked potato, fried okra and a big ol' jalapeno pepper. Not only is my belly quite full, but my mouth is still on fire long after that giant pepper was consumed. Well doggie that was a hot one.

We are now back on the road and just passed the Alamo . . . no, not the more famous Alamo, that's about 520 miles south of here. We just passed Alamo Fireworks. That place may or may not be famous but there were quite a few folks milling around outside the place so I figure at the very least it's fairly well known if not actually famous ;)

As I mentioned we are now in the car, and I am typing this on my computer which is connecting to the Internet through my phone. Aint technnology amazin'? I remember the very first Supreme Session Diary I did back in 1998 in Vancouver. I thought it was plumb amazing that I was able to connect with this big fancy schmantzy device that the maintenance department gave me to hook up to the phone in the room. Man, things sure have come a long way.

Okay, that's about it for now. I'll try to check back in when we get to Albuquerque. Tomorrow we'll be heading to the National Museum of Nuclear Sience & History so check back in later to see if I am glowing in the dark ;)

At the Nuclear Museum in Albuquerque

Replicas of the Atomic Bombs Fat Man and Little Boy

Hey folks, it has been an eventful day.  We got up bright and early and had breakfast at the hotel.  The we headed over to WalMart to get a replacement for the car charger for our brand new GPS.  We got it and hooked it up and then made way to the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History.

This was a very interesting place.  It basically tells the story of the Atomic Age, from early research of nuclear development through the atomic bombs in World War II, to the Cold War and finally to today’s peaceful uses of nuclear technology.  I had a blast there (please pardon the pun) and really enjoyed all of the exhibits.

A B-29 at the Museum . . .

. . . As well as a B-52

We left the museum and went to the Route 66 Diner.  Man what a cool place.  It's loaded with memorabilia from various places along old Route 66, as well as general stuff from the 1950's and 1960's.  Speaking of loaded, boy do they load you down with the food.  As you can tell from the pictures they sure do give you a plate full and then some.

My lunch Yummy

Toni's lunch

We got back on the road to head to our next destination, Flagstaff when . . . well you remember that brand new GPS I mentioned earlier?  Well now instead of the cord going bad, the entire unit stopped working.  So we went to a WalMart along the way and bought another brand new GPS (different brand this time) and we got back on the road and finally rolled into Flagstaff about 10:00 local time.  I had a somewhat more Spartan meal this time, then sat down to write this entry in the diary.

Posing with some friends

My dinner is not quite as large as lunch.  Banana bread, cherry tomatoes,
a peach and some apple beer (completely non-alcoholic)

Now I need so send a couple of shout-outs to some friends who have written to me regarding the Session Diary.  The first goes Kathy Rodemacher, PBG #1 and a member of Bethel #12's Council.  Kathy writes:

Ashley and Toni, have a safe and great trip to supreme. Looking forward to your diary posts. You have a beautiful day to head out of here. Hope it is this nice each day of your trip.

Thanks Kathy.  We have had mostly good weather with a few bouts of intense raid along the way.  It was also be fairly cool as well.  I have had to wear a jacket a few times on the trip.

Our next shout-out goes to Jan Harms, PGG-PA and a member of the JDI Board of Trustees.  Jan writes:

Hi Ashley,

Reading your trip highlights already gets me excited to get to California! Can’t wait to see you out there and spend HOURS together in a room..hopefully with A/C. Do they let us out to at least eat once and awhile? LOL

See you soon! Sharon Shaeffer and I arrive on Saturday.

Jan

Thanks Jan.  We will spend hours together in a room, together with the other members of the Board, members of the Supreme Line, our Executive Manager Susan Goolsby and assorted other folks as they come and go, lol.  Even though it is a lot of long hours, it can also be very interesting as everyone works for the betterment of Job's Daughters.  Oh, and when Jan and Sharon Shaeffer get together, you better watch out.  The laughs will be coming fast and furious.  See you soon Jan :)

Well that's about it for tonight.  We have a long haul tomorrow as we make our way from Flagstaff, Arizona to Anaheim, California and our first incursion into . . . well, you'll find out, won't you ;)  Good night everybody, I'll talk to you later.

California here we come

The Mojave Desert

Hey everyone, it was a very long day but in the end a very fun one. We left Flagstaff bright and early, filled up with gas (I mean the kind for the car, not the kind you get from eating way too much at the 66 Diner, lol), and got on the road for Anaheim. It was a long trip but it went fairly quickly as for the vast majority we didn't hit a lot of traffic. Along the way we drove throuh the Mojave Desert. We generally think of deserts as being dry, barren places, but that is not true. While it may be hot and dry, it is teeming with various types of plants and wildlife that have carved out a niche in the harsh environment. There is a stark beauty to the Mojave that made the trip through it a very interesting experience.

Remember how I said we didn't hit much traffic form most of the trip? Well, that was true until we got into the Los Angeles vicinity. From there on in it was wack-o time, lol. I managed not to get run off the road and we finally made it to our destination of Anaheim, California.

Now why did we come to Anaheim you may ask. Go ahead, ask, I'll wait (tap tap tap). Oh, you asked why we came to Anaheim, what a surprise, lol. We came to go to Disneyland. I know, I know, that is perhaps the worst kept secret, but nevertheless, we are here.

Here we are

Walt Disney and Mickey in front of Sleeping Beauty's Castle

We got checked into the Paradise Pier Hotel and hit Disneyland as soon as we got our stuff into the room. It was a great time, and while we didn't get a chance to see everything obviously, this was just our initial excursion. We had dinner there, and saw Fantasmic and the Fireworks display. Later we went on the Nemo Undersea adventure, the Jungle Cruise and Star Tours. It was a lot of fun. By the time we got back to the hotel, it was all I could do to make it to the bed and it was lights out.

That's about it for now. I'll be talking you you later. Ta Ta :)

Mom Toni with Pluto

Hanging out with a couple of cute girls ;)

Good morning folks. This morning we headed down to the hotel restaurant for breakfast and there we ran into a bunch of our Disney friends. Mickey Mouse was there as was Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Pluto and Stitch from Lilo and Stitch. We had a great time meeting all of them, and in addition the food was wonderful as well. It was a very cool way to start the day.

After breakfast we made our way over to Disney's California Adventure. This is the newer addition to the California Disney Parks, and it is a lot of fun. While we were there we went to the Disney Princesses Dance Party. There all of the female characters from various Disney movies led the entire place through their dance moves. It was a lot of fun, and man I was bouncing on my scooter, lol.

From there we went to the Taxi Ride through Monstropolis. This is a cool ride featuring characters from Monsters, Inc. You are in a runaway taxi bouncing around Monstropolis while viewing scenes from the movie. Pretty neat.

Clarabell the Cow shows off her moves

Sully and Mike Wazowski save Boo

We came out of that ride just in time to view the Pixar Parade. Characters from the various Pixar movies were featured and the parade was a lot of fun.

The Incredibles save the day at the Pixar Parade

Characters from Toy Story cool down the crowd with blasts of water

Then we made our way to Soarin'. This is a ride that features a virtual flight across California. They warn you that if you have a fear of heights, you may not want to go on this one. Now I have a tremendous fear of heights, to he point where it is almost silly, but someone, I won't mention Toni's name and embarrass her, said come on, it will be fun, the Star Tours ride was a lot worse. And just like the lie that she and Lynne Stratmanne told me 30 years ago (Come on and be the Associate Bethel Guardian for Bethel #12. It's only two nights a month), this lie turned out to be a whopper. The minute we took off I was petrified. I kept my eyes shut through most of the ride, but could still feel the wind and the many dips and turns as we soared above California. I peeked everynow and then just enought to see what was going on and to bring my fear factor back to maximum. After what seemed like 30 or 40 minutes on this ride, we finally got our feet back on the ground and I wobbled back to the real world. I can't wait to go back, lol.

Then we mosied on over to Cars Land, the newest addition to California Adventure. This is a complete re-creation of the town of Radiator Springs from the movie Cars. It was wild, just like stepping into the movie. All of the different cars characters were there and all of the kids, young and old, really enjoyed the experience.

Tow Mater makes his entrance . . .

. . . Into Radiator Springs

The big Mickey Ferris Wheel at Paradise Pier

Statue of Walt Disney and Mickey as they appeared in the 1930's

We then moved on to the Aladdin stage show. This was a Broadway style show and the wow factor was sky high. Great singing, acrobatics, acting, high flying adventure and a Genie who rivaled Robin Williams in the movie version made this a most enjoyable show.

Replica of the Carthay Circle Theater, where the premier of
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was held

Aladdin bounces his way through a great show

It was now close to dinner time so we headed out of the park and over to Downtown Disney were we had a wonderful meal at the House of Blues. I had grilled shrimp and grits. It just doesn't get much better than that for an old southern boy like me.

Then it was back to Disneyland where we went on several rides, the first of which was the Pirates of the Carribean. I have been on this ride many times in DisneyWorld in Florida, but the one here at Disneyland is much longer and more detailed. They have even updated it with characters from the recent Pirates of the Carribean movies. It's a wonderful classic ride with a few modern twists thrown in for good measure.

Some of the spooky scenes . . .

. . . From the Pirates of the Caribbean

Speaking of twists, we then went on the Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye ride. Again, there was a warning on this ride, but I figured if I survived that blasted Soarin', I could make it through this one. Wow, wow, wow, what a ride. This was a wild jeep ride through an ancient, forbidden temple and you are twisted, turned, crashed through the various nooks and crannies, dips and dives of the ancient building. Whew, it was fantastic. If you make it to Disneyland, this one has to go on your list of things to do.

Then is was over to Fantasy Land where we made it onto several of the original rides here at DisneyLand. Mr. Toads Wild Ride was first, and then the Peter Pan ride. These are two of my favorites, and even though they are among the oldest rides in the park, they still draw some of the biggest crowds.

Then we went to the Dumbo ride. While I have been going to DisneyWorld since they opened, I have never gone on the Dumbo ride. Well, since I was now here at the original, I fugured it was time. Toni when first and spun around and around, up and down. Then when she came off she was surprised to see me in line to get on board. I climbed in my Dumbo and off I went, spinning around and around the ride, guiding Dumbo up and down as the flying elephant gave me a nice, gentle thrill looking out over the park.

Mom Toni on the Dumbo Ride

Uh oh, here we go

The Sleeping Beauty Castle at the close of the day

So long Mickey, we'll see you again tomorrow

That just about made our day other than a short, 17 hour shopping excursion at the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney. Well, maybe it wasn't quite that long, but it sure seemed like it at the end of this very eventful day.

Following all of the purchases, we made it back to he room and I flopped into my bed. Back at it tomorrow. Thanks for reading, I'll be talking to you later.

Breakfast for the day, a pepperoni pizza pretzel

The Haunted Mansion awaits

We started the day by heading over to Downtown Disney where I got a pepperoni pizza pretzel.  It was very good and quite filling.  As you can see from the picture it was very large.  After that it was on to Disneyland where we started out our adventure at the Haunted Mansion.  As with the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, this is somewhat different than the one at DisneyWorld in Florida.  It was a fun experience and very spooky in a not so scary way.

After that we went on the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour.  This tour took us to many of the original 1955 rides and exhibits in Disneyland, and told the story of the days when Walt Disney himself was at the park on a regular basis.  It also included a great deal of information about development of the park from 1955 though 1966 when Walt Disney passed away.  The highlight of the tour was getting to visit the private apartment what Walt had at Disneyland.  From here he could get away from the hustle and bustle of the park and recharge his batteries.  It was a really cool place to be.  One funny thing about visiting the apartment, since it was built in the 1950's it is hardly handicapped accessible, so I had to take a construction lift to the level of the apartment, and then across a rickety walkramp to the back porch of the building.  This was great fun for someone like me with a tremendous fear of heights.  I guess that truly marks me as a Disney Geek that I was willing to do this to visit this special Disney place.

After the tour we watched the Character parade on Main Street, then we went over to California Adventure for the World of Color Water and Light show.  Wow, what a great show.  It is similar to Fantasmic in that it combines sprays of water, lights and live action, but the technology has come a long way since he development of Fantasmic and it was just an overpowering experience.

Then it was back over to Disneyland to close out the evening at Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Pinocchio's Daring Journey and a visit to Sleeping Beauty's Castle.  Mom Toni went on Space Mountain while I went on the Indiana Jones ride one more time.  They we made our way back to the hotel, tired but happy.

Packed and ready to go

One last look out the window

We got up early on Saturday, packed and then made our way for one last morning at Disneyland.  We met up with Job's Daughters people from Queensland, Oklahoma, Indiana and California.  We posed for a group picture in from of Sleeping Beauty's Castle.  Everyone was excited about both being at Disneyland and the upcoming Supreme Session.  After that we got on the Monorail and made our way back to the hotel to get in the car and head to Oakland.

One the long road to Oakland

We arrive at Supreme Session and he first folks we see are from Missouri

It was a long trip but we finally rolled into Oakland about 8:15, just in time for my 8:30 meeting.  After that I made my way back to the room and in no time I was sawing logs.

I now have a lot of shout-outs to send.  The first one goes out to my good friend from Down Under, Margaret Thompson.  She writes:

Now my good friend we have both faced our fears...I have done Soarin over California 2 times....in 2006 and was terrified but we were in the back row and I told myself I was only a couple of feet off the ground......Last year we were in the front row and as we went up I realized I was going to be many, many, many feet over the gap in front of the screen.....Thought I was going to die but told myself you have done this before...Congratulations we have passed the test...if I went next time I would be saying I want the back row not the front!!!!!!!

Thanks Margaret, I appreciate it.  For those who don't suffer from a fear of heights, consider yourself very lucky.  On an intellectual basis, yes, I know that I was really not very far up in the air, but my senses were telling me something different.  The experience is so realistic, and the manner in which you are seated, with your legs dangling in the air, really adds to that realism.  While I am glad I can say I did it Margaret, I think you will always be able to say you have gone Soaring over California more times than I have, lol

The next shout-out goes to Caronly Block, PGG-Kansas.  Carolyn writes:

Hi Ashley,

So glad you and Toni are enjoying your trip to California. I too am a Disneyland lover. Enjoy your time there.

Thanks for doing the diary again this year. I won't be making the trip to Supreme this year, so will enjoy your updates and comments. Guess you can't take my picture to post in your diary again. Love to all, have a great time and drive safely.

Park Bench

Thanks Carolyn.  For those wondering about her being called Park Bench, man that is a funny story that I have been trying to tell for many years here on my Supreme Diaries, but something always seems to come up to prevent me finishing the story.  You know that is funny how things like that keep happening year after year after year.  Well, the actual story about her getting that name has to do with . . . wait, did I finish with my shout-outs?  Hmm, I don't think I did.  Well, I guess I will have to tell the Park Bench story a little later ;)

The next shout-out goes to Judy Gordon, Grand Guide of Illinois.  Judy writes:

Ashley:

Thank you for sharing your vacation with us. Can't wait to read more of the diary...

Judy Gordon,
Grand Guide, Illinois

Thanks Judy, I appreciate it.  I really enjoy doing these and hope that everyone gets some entertainment and information out of them.

The next shout-out goes to Bill Walker, PASG-Washington.  Bill writes:

Ashley,

As always, it is great to read your Supreme Diary notes. It looks like you had a fun time on the trip. Be sure to keep all of us "staying at home" folks updated as to the happenings in Oakland. Say hello to everyone that knows me (a lot of them have no clue who I am..hehehehehehhe). Take care of yourself and enjoy the PSG dinner!

Bill

Thanks Bill.  We have had a very fun trip out here, and the fun has only just begun here at Session.  As for people having no clue who you are, don't sell yourself short.  I know lots of people who come up to me and ask me to say hello to old what's his name ;)

Well, that's about it for the day.  I'll be talking to you later.

The view from our hotel window

Past Supreme Guardians talking things over

Well hello everyone.  I hope you are having a great day wherever you are.  The day started off with the Session Church Service.  After that it was time to begin the Board of Trustees meeting.  The subjects covered in these meetings covers a wide range of issues in the Jobie World, including YPP, Trademark, Website, Membership, Finances, Insurance and many other items.  I know that there are many times that the Board gets a bad rap, but please know that each and every member has the best interests of the Order in their hearts.  We may not always agree on the best way to get from one place to another, but in the end we all want the same thing, and that is for our Order to grow and prosper so that young women far in the future will be able to bloom, lead and soar.

Sitting around the hotel . . .

Some of the best times at Session are those
when you just get to sit and talk

After the meeting I was some left over Chinese food thanks to Mom Toni, then spent the remainder of the evening talking with friends from around the world.  Supreme Session is a wonderful place to catch up with old friends and make new ones.  I hope that all of you will have the opportunity to attend at least one.  They truly are a wonderful experience and more that worth what it may cost to attend.

I have a couple more shout-outs to send.  This one goes to Mom Lynne Stratmann, PGG-Missouri.  Lynne writes:

Ashley,

Enjoying reading your Supreme journal, even if you haven't gotten to Supreme yet. We are enjoying the vacation. How did you do on Dumbo since it goes up in the air? I remember well your fear of heights, we found out about it for the first time when we toured AB and you clung to the wall with sweat pouring down your face and almost the same walking the stairs up and down at the ballpark (oh, that's right you did not leave your seat until it was time to leave), if we were more that a couple of rows up. You have come a long way to conquer your fear of heights.

What do you mean Toni and I lied to you? (You know I did not teach my girls to lie). We know you have loved almost every minute, and if it weren't for us and our little fib you probably would not be on your way to another Supreme Session.

Wishing you and Toni a continued safe and fun trip. We will be checking the website for more reading and please let our our Missouri girls know we hope they all do well at Supreme.

Mom Lynne
PGG-MO.

Thanks Lynne.  You know as I think about it, for someone with a really bad fear of heights, somehow I have managed to find myself in some very high places.  The Gateway Arch in St. Louis, the Sears Tower and the John Hancock building in Chicago, the Hemisfair Tower in San Antonio are among those place I have chosen to go in order to scare myself silly.  Go figure, lol.  As for that little fib, I never said I didn't appreciate it, I simply said that perhaps you and Toni were somewhat less than 100% truthful ;)  Actually it is that fib that just about every Associate Bethel Guardian has chosen to believe, knowing full well that the job might require a bit more time.

The next shout-out goes to Mom Linda Sinley, PGG-Missouri.  Linda writes:

Hi Ashley and Toni! Following your adventures again this year and I am so jealous I'm not with you!! I wish you would have had time to make it down to Phoenix, but I know your schedule didn't allow that. Will catch up with you again later.

Linda Sinley

Thanks Linda.  We had really hoped to be able to get to Phoenix but there simply weren't enough hours in the day.  Hope to see you guys soon.

Well folks, that's about it for tonight.  It's after midnight now and we kick it off again at 8:30 tomorrow morning so I'm gonna hit the sack.  Take care everyone and I'll be talking to you later :)

The Registration bunch hard at work

Bill Keel, PAGG-CA, fooling around

Hey everybody, Supreme Session has started gearing up and things are starting to pop.  The girls had their Performing Arts competition today.  Lilly Flanery, Alexis Hudson, and Brittany Hall from Missouri all competed, and I believe all of them won 2nd Place in their categories. Later that evening Lily performed her Sign Language solo during the Talent Show.

I spent most of the day in our Board Meeting.  Once again we worked through the issues that have come before us and are doing our very best for the Order.  However in the true spirit of Job's Daughters, we do like to have a bit of fun from time to time as evidenced by a picture of Gary Semenuik, RoseMarie Short and Jeannie Johnson that I will be posting in just a bit.

Remember that pic of the Board I told you about?  Well here it is ;)

Later in the evening I attended the above mentioned Talent Show.  We really have a lot of very talented young ladies in our organization, and this was the perfect opportunity for them to put that talent on display.  Congratulations to all who participated and to all of those who took part in the Performing Arts Competition.

I spent the rest of the evening talking with friends that I haven't seen in some time.  It is always great to catch up with everybody at Session.  It is one of my favorite parts of the week.

Well, it's getting late and once again I have an early call for our Board meeting, so I'm gonna hit the sack.  I'll be talking to everybody later.

Opening the SGC Business Session

The Bible Ceremony for the business session

Hey there folks, how are things going?  Things here are moving right along.  Once again I began the day at the Board Meeting, while Mom Toni went to help judge the Miss International Pageant and Miss Kim went to help judge the Ritual Competition.  It was a good meeting this morning, as we met with both Rod from Doc Morgan, Inc., and members of the Long Range Planning Group.  Both have lots of exciting things on the drawing board for the future.

After lunch we had a Board Town Hall Meeting.  Here folks could ask the members of the Board just about anything they wanted to know.  It was a free wheeling session that covered a lot of ground, and really gives the members of the SGC a chance to meet and know the members of the Board.  It was a good session and I think everybody learned something.

Then it was time for dinner.  Mom Toni, Miss Kim and I went with some of our good friends from Wyoming to a local Mexican restaurant, Mexicali Rose.  The food was good and the company even better.  My partner in Supreme Line, Mom Shirley Bryngelson, was with us and we had a wonderful time.

After we came back we viewed the presentation of the Daughter YPP.  It was very interesting and I think the Daughters got a lot out of it.  Then the girls went into their Jobie Congress, where they discussed the impending legislation on the floor of the SGC that directly affects Supreme Bethel.  During the discussions, the girls displayed a good knowledge of the amendments, and gave many salient points both for and against.

After the Jobie Congress it was time to let off some steam at the HIKE Dance.  The girls did their usual fancy dance moves and even some of the adults got into the act.  It was a good time for a good cause.

Then it was . . .

Then it was time to come back to the room and catch up a bit.  I hope that everybody is enjoying the diary so far.  I have some pictures and shout-outs to catch up with, but right now it's time to hit the sack.  We start the SGC Business Sessions tomorrow as Supreme really shifts into high gear.  I'll be talking to you all later :)

Opening the SGC Business Session

The Bible Ceremony for the SGC Business Session

This morning we got down to the nitty gritty here at Supreme Session.  The SGC Business Sessions kicked off this morning.  We began with reports from the Supreme Guardian and the Associate Supreme Guardian.  They were both very good and well received.  Our ASG Ron Johnson finished his report by presenting his wife, Jeannie, with a dozen roses.  That was pretty cool.  Then we had reports from our Executive Manager Susan Goolsby, Board Chair Karen Willard and I gave my report as Webmaster.

Then we launched into the many amendments that are on the floor.  I will have a list of the results at the end of Session.

We broke for lunch, and I went to the Men of Job Luncheon.  The theme was Surfing, and we had hamburgers and french fries.  The food was good, the company better and the whole experience great.  While we were at lunch, our VASG Gary Semeniuk asked me to write a note for him.  It seems that our Supreme Guardian, RoseMarie Short, on one of her many flights throughout the year, managed to drop her cell phone in the airplane toilet.  Rather than try to fish it out, she went ahead and flushed it.  Gary got a dummy cell phone, put it in a bag with some blue water, and I wrote a note saying that the airline found the cell phone and was now returning it to its rightful owner.  When the afternoon business session started, it was presented to her with much laughter as she told the story behind the presentation.

Following the business session, the Formal Banquet was held.  I did not attend but several from Missouri did and they said that it was very nice.  I had dinner with friends from Wyoming and Pennsylvania, including Shirley Bryngelson, Dolly Maxwell, Jan Harms and Sharon Schaffer.  We had a good time laughing and eating.

After dinner there was just enough time to change into my tuxedo and get back downstairs for the Formal Opening.  Mom Toni and I were introduced along with the other Past Supreme Guardians and Past Associate Supreme Guardians in attendance.  The opening went very well, and included the Flag Ceremony, where all of the flags from the countries with Job's Daughters were presented as well as the Bethel Flag and all of the Jurisdictional Flags.  It was very well done.\

Following the opening, we had a party to wish our Miss Missouri Job's Daughter Brianna Hall good luck in the Miss International Pageant tomorrow evening.  She received several gifts and cards, and everybody had fun eating pizza and spending time with their friends.

There were some strange goings on at the party

I have no idea, but this would probably
be a good time to head back to the room

After that it was back up to the room to catch up on the diary.  Now its time for some shout-outs.

The first shout-out goes to Julie Emberson, PGBHQ-Illinois.  Julie writes:

Ashley,

Once again great job on the Supreme diary. And looks like y'all had fun at "my World's" older but not bigger sister. And I'm sure your aware cause they were probably celebrating it all over the park, but on July 17th you were at Disneyland in their 58th birthday!

Anywhoo back to Session I'm enjoying the updates. Can't wait for more! Hoping to make it to 2014 & 15 ~ Spokane to see one of my Besties Barb go in as SG. and Chicago/Lisle cause its home :) until then Peace, Love and Mickey Mouse!

Tell the fam & my Ilini peeps I said hi... and enjoy the rest of Supreme!

Thanks Julie.  For those who don't know, Julie works at DisneyWorld in Orlando, Florida.  Man, what a great gig.  Yes, we had a wonderful time being at Disneyland on the 58th Anniversary.  One thing I haven't figured out though, Disneyland and I both came into the world in the same year.  So how can Disneyland be 58 when I am only 30?  Would you believe 40?  How about 50?  Oh all right, yes, Disneyland and I are both the same age, lol

Our next shout-out goes to Carrie Curry, PGG-Illinois.  Carrie writes:

Hey Dad Ashley,

I always enjoy your diary because I feel like I am with you. Tell the Supreme line I say hey! and keep up the good work!

Carrie Curry,
PGG, PGBHQ Illinois

Thanks Carrie.  Glad you are enjoying the diary.  I will tell everyone you said hello.

Our next shout-out goes to Sandy Flanery, PGG-Missouri.  Sandy writes:

Hi Ashley! Enjoying your Supreme Diary as always. What fun at Disney.

Sending "good luck" vibes to all of the MO Girls in their competitions today and tomorrow. "Show them" how amazing you are!!

I'll be watching your daily updates to hear how things go.

Hugz from KC,
Mom Sandy

Thanks Sandy.  I know that our Missouri girls did very well.  They took home several Performing Arts awards, and I think they will do well in the Ritual Awards as well.  I watched the team rehearse and I was very impressed.

Our nextl shout-out for the evening goes to Amanda Leblanc, PGG-Minnesota.  Amanda writes:

Hi Dad Ashley!! I wanted to thank you (along with so many other people) for keeping those of us who can't be at Supreme Session updated! I even look back at your diaries sometimes and remember the many, many amazing moments of past Sessions. This is the second year I am unable to attend Session as my husband and I are expecting the birth of our son in September. My love and thoughts are with you and all of my other amazing Job's Daughters friends from around the world! Have a spectacular week!!

Thanks Amanda.  I got to know Amanda when she was Miss International and I was Associate Supreme Bethel Guardian.  She later went on to become the Grand Guardian of Minnesota.  Congratulation on your impending arrival.  I know that you will make a great mom.

Our final shout-out for the evening goes to Jan Reinhart, Assisting Supreme Deputy to Florida Bethel #9.  Sandy writes:

Really enjoy getting the Supreme Session happenings daily. Your time in putting this info online for us not attending is truly appreciated. : )

Thanks Jan.  I enjoy doing this and trying to give those not in attendance a bit of the flavor of Supreme Session.

Well, that's about it for tonight.  Tomorrow is a big day with the Supreme Bethel Meeting, another SGC Business Session and the Miss International Job's Daughter Pageant.  Whew, I have tired just thinking about it . . . well, maybe I am, tire because I have been up since early this morning . . . nah, that could be it, lol.  Okay, I am getting goofy now.  I'd better head to bed.  Good night everybody.
