We decided to delay our departure when we looked outside and saw this |
Hey everybody. Has anyone heard the song by Creedence Clearwater Revival called Lookin' Out My Backdoor? Well, a minute ago I was looking out my backdoor and couldn't past the porch. We are getting just a touch of rain . . . okay, it's a downpour, lol. Anyway, looks like we are going to be delayed just a bit before we get started. Actually that's a good thing. This year we will be heading out west to the great state of Colorado, in particular Colorado Springs for what promises to be an outstanding Supreme Session, and it is a long drive. The last thing we need is to have to make it in the rain. This has been a particularly busy time as I have been helping Mom Toni as she makes her preparations for the next year. We have been working at the computer, printing, copying, revising, etc. Mom Toni has been getting a constant stream new stuff to do for the past couple of weeks so she is in the other room working a bit. So before we get on the road, I will just reiterate what I originally said in my Pre-Session remarks. I hope that many of you from Missouri and Idaho who are going to Supreme Session will be able to work a bit in the Session Sales booth, and that those from other Jurisdictions will stop by, say hello and maybe buy an item or two. To the Daughters from Missouri and Idaho who will be coming to session. If you have a set of pom-pons, could you please bring them with you. We will be using them when we make our Session Presentation on Friday, August 6. We want everybody from both Jurisdictions to help with the presentation. In addition to a short skit we will be presenting, we have a lot of informational packets to pass out and the more hands we have, the better. To those who want to write, please feel free to do so. I try to send a shout-out to all who e-mail me during the session. Actually my first shout-out is a delayed one from last year. My pal Jeff Kitsmiller, who is the Executive Secretary of DeMolay International sent a note last year. In the usual deluge of stuff to do at Session, I inadvertently left his note out. So Jeff, here's a double shout-out. Thanks for the best wishes. It is greatly appreciated. My next shout-out goes to Colleen Vezeau, who is a Majority Member and Council Helper for Bethel #43 in Fenton Missouri as well as a very hard worker for Missouri Job's Daughters in general. Colleen writes:
Thanks Colleen. I would also like to second her remarks about our Daughters at Session. Have a great time, do well in your competitions and above all, have fun :) Well, that's about it for now. I don't know what time we will actually get on the road, but I am guessing it's going to be a while yet. I will be back later on for an update from wherever we wind up this evening. Take care and I'll talk to you later. |
|
. . . And we are on the road |
|
Whew, we made it! |
Well, the best laid plans . . . you know how the rest goes. Due to Toni's overwhelming workload and the downpour that we really didn't want to drive through, we didn't leave until this morning. However, all of our stuff was already packed away, including my computer, so I was unable to do any updating until we arrived in Colorado Springs. We had a beautiful day to drive. It was sunny for about 90% of the trip, plus the fact that we were going west, we were basically in daylight until nearly 10:00 Central Time. Around dusk we did hit some rain, but it wasn't too bad. Not nearly the downpour that we had yesterday. We stopped in Topeka for some lunch and to pick up a few items at Target. Like we had about 5 inches of free space in the car so we figured we needed to buy something to put there. With our stops for lunch and dinner, plus a couple of stops for gas, the trip took about 15 hours. Not really too bad with Toni and I switching about every 3 hours. Actually the last 60 miles or so was the slowest due to it being just a two lane highway. We got into Colorado Springs about 11:10 their time. By the time we got the car unpacked and everything into the room, it is now 2:00 a.m. I am going to cut it short and hit the sack. I have a lot of shout-outs to get to tomorrow, both from e-mail and Facebook, so be on the lookout for your notes ;) Goodnight everybody. |

. . . Because he just carried more boxes to our room from his room which is about 5 miles on the other side of the hotel . . . Okay, maybe not quite that far, but is was more than just a good stretch of the legs, lol. |
As the Beatles sang, "Good morning, good morning, good morning." We had a lovely breakfast of oatmeal here in the room, and we are about to get out and check out the hotel a little bit. After that it will be on to registration to get our Session Info. Later today we will be setting up the Supreme Session Sales room. As most of you know, that is where the Session Arrangement Committees for those in Supreme Line sell some really cool items associated with either Job's Daughters or their home Jurisdictions. Later in the day will be the Reception honoring our Supreme Guardian, Elaine Gray. Elaine did a really super job as Supreme Guardian this past year, and I am sure the reception will be lots of fun. These receptions are often sort of a combination between an actual honoring of the guest of honor and a roast of the same. Should be fun:) I will try to catch up a bit on my shout-outs. First of all to Nancy Dobbins, Guardian Secretary of Bethel #33 in Kansas City who writes:
Thanks Nancy. I know all the girls appreciate it. Nancy was Missouri Grand Librarian last year and did a tremendous job with the Ritual Competition at Grand Session. Next we have a note from Jan Harms, Grand Secretary of Pennsylvania Job's Daughters. Jan writes:
Thanks Jan. Wish you were here. I will pass your message on to Kim. BTW, my daughter Kim is on the Performing Arts Competition Committee, so she will be one busy camper here at session. Speaking of Kim, she and my other daughter Katie are on their way to Session this morning. They left about 7 hours behind us yesterday and spent the night in Oakley, Kansas, which is about 3 1/2 hours from here. Next up is Bill Walker, Past Associate Supreme Guardian from Washington. Bill writes:
Thanks Bill. We will miss you here at Session. Bill did a great job as ASG, and as a member and President of the JDI Board of Trustees. He brings up a couple of interesting points. First of all, the use of Mom and Dad. Different Jurisdictions have different traditions. In Missouri we use Mom and Dad, although the way it is used has changed a bit over the years. Originally you had the title of Mom or Dad if you were a past or present Bethel Guardian or Associate Bethel Guardian and everyone else was Mr., Mrs, Miss, etc.. These days we have more or less adopted the titles of Mom and Dad for all adults associated with the Order, although there are still a few throwbacks to the old way. I plead guilty on that one, but I am changing little by little, lol. Examples of other Jurisdictions are Illinois, where the terms Aunt and Uncle are used, and Washington, where it is simply Mr. and Mrs. No matter what title is used it is indicative of the respect given to the adults of the Order from the Daughters. My next shout-out goes to Eva Pelak, PBG #12-MO. Eva writes:
Thanks Eva. You know, speaking of the Terms of Affection used by Job's Daughters for their adults, Eva is known as Aunt Eva around Missouri Job's Daughters. That's not because she is from Illinois, but because the girls picked it up from Kim and Katie who called her Aunt Eva, since she is their aunt. For that matter, Kim is usually called Miss Kim. When Kim first became the Bethel Guardian of Bethel #12 in St. Louis, she had an Honored Queen who was in dancing school where the instructors are often referred to as Miss, regardless of age, marital status, etc. She started calling Kim "Miss Kim" and the name stuck, so even though Kim is now married, to the girls she is still Miss Kim. The next shout-out goes to Mom Kathy Rodemacher, PBG #1-MO, who writes on Facebook:
Thanks Kathy. Kathy is a good friend and is in charge of the Supreme Reception that will be held in St. Louis on September 18. You can find more information about that on the Special Events Page of the Missouri Job's Daughters Website, or by simply Clicking Here. The next shout-out goes to Lindsey McLean Lorteau, a PHQ from Manitoba and a Facebook Friend of mine. She writes on Facebook:
Thanks Lindsey. Lindsey is a wonderful young lady who is still quite active in Masonic Family organizations such as the Daughters of the Nile. Thanks again Lindsey, glad you are enjoying the diary. The next shout-out is a group shout-out. There were a lot of people who posted comments to my Facebook post about our trip here. There are pictured below:
Thank you so much to everybody who posted their comments. I really appreciate all of them. I am going to single out one however. Mom Shirley Bryngelson, who was the Supreme Guardian in 2003-2004, and my partner in Supreme Line, is a little under the weather and unable to attend Session. She is a very special person and we will miss her this year tremendously. I know a bit of what she is going through being unable to be here. In 2002, I was very ill and unable to attend Supreme Session in Australia. I was able to keep up with the events there through a network of good friends who e-mailed and called me with the happenings of that session. Shirley, I hope I can do half as good of a job keeping you updated about Session as those great folks did for me. Now you get better and we will see you next year in St. Louis. I have been playing catch up here with my shout-outs so if I accidentally overlooked anyone, I apologize and will try to get it in later. BTW, for anyone interested, my Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/TheAshleyUnderwood and we have a page for Supreme Session 2011 at http://www.facebook.com/Supreme-Session-2011/357017073930#!/pages/Supreme-Session-2011/357017073930?ref=ts. Dad Rick Holloway, Mom Toni's partner in the Supreme Line, popped in a few minutes ago and brought more Ways and Means items. He was really tired as he carried the boxes from his room, which is on the other side of this very expansive hotel. Now he and Mom Toni are off for the first Board of Trustees meeting of the Session. I have some business to attend to as well so I will sign off for now. I will talk to everyone a bit later on.
Hey there, I'm back. Earlier today my daughter Katie and I had lunch in the hotel restaurant. It was pretty good. While we were eating we also talked to some folks as they passed by the restaurant (our table was right by one of the main traffic ways of the hotel), and they included Mom Marilyn Olson, PSG-WY, Kathy Winders, PGG-WY, Susie Mentel, PSG-IL and her husband Jim. After that we got the Missouri-Idaho Session Sales table set up today. Well, I use the term "we" very loosely. Actually folks like Miss Kim, Randy Sinley, Lon Goede and Ginny Goede did most of the work. I pretty much showed up towards the end and said, "Good job, everybody." Hey, you gotta know what you do best ;) We have a lot of great stuff for Session Sales, some of which are returning items, some are new items. The biggest new item is our new Hoodie. The front logo is similar to the ones we came up with for Mom Toni's year as Grand Guardian, but now that a couple of other Jurisdictions have started selling that item (they asked permission and we said yes) we made our new one just a bit different. On the front it says Job's Daughters, Established 1920, Continuing the Tradition. On the Back it says There is nothing quite like a Jobie Sister. They are black with pink printing and look pretty cool. Below are the drawing from the Sales Flyer:
For those who might be interested, the Sales Flyer will be posted on the website later in the week. After the sales set up, I got the chance to talk with some of the Missouri folks who are here. Mom Nelda Kaeser, PGG-MO and Dad Richard Kaeser, PABG #1, their daughter Karri Hairer, PGBHQ-MO and granddaughter Becca Hairer, PHQ #49. Brooklyn Childs, Librarian #12, was also with the group as well as Barb Hall, Guardian Treasurer #19, her daughters Brittney, Librarian #19 and Briana, PHQ #19, and Paula Howard, PHQ #3 and her daughter Erin, PHQ #47. We had a good chat, and it turns out that they had been to Seven Falls, a tourist attraction here in Colorado Springs. Poor Brooklyn was leaning over to view the falls, and her wallet fell out and . . . well, let's just say the attraction is now called Seven Falls and one Wallet. I also got to talk to some of my Australian friends Sonja Gray, Elaine's daughter, as well as Keira Johnson, last years Miss Queensland and her mother Jocelyn. It is always fun catching up with my friends from down under.
A bit later the Supreme Guardian's Reception was held. This was a fun event that featured some good food, entertainment and lots of fun, followed by ever more fun as the great folks from Australia put on a show that included Tiki Dancing, singing, guitar playing and South Seas interpretive dancing. It was really a fun evening and I thing that everybody had a great time.
Following the Reception, Mom Toni had to go to another session of the Board Meeting while I managed to chat with some of my Canadian friends like Sheila Lardner and Janet Dryburgh. That is what is so great about Supreme Session. You can catch up with old friends and of course, make new friends as well. After that it was back to the room to catch up with the diary. At this point I will turn it over to Kim, who will let you know a bit about her and Katie's trip to Session. Take it away Kim: Hey everyone! The trip was awesome and we made it safely. We left Saturday afternoon, twice actually. Miss Katie left her phone charger at home so we had to go back and get it. Once on the road Miss Katie fell asleep but I had NPR to keep me company so the next four hours went by pretty fast. On the way we saw signs for the Wizard of Oz Museum and just had to stop by. Unfortunately they were already closed but we were able to get a few pictures of the outside. We are hopeful that we will leave early Sunday so we can visit the museum. We stayed the night in Oakley and got up early to head into Colorado. Of course on the way we saw the signs for Goodland......scary scary Goodland. Some of you may or may not know that after Supreme Session in Utah in 1997 Dad Ashley, Dad Jeff Kitsmiller, Mom Kathy Rodemacher, Mom Ruth Mary Leavitt, Felicia Rodemacher, Katie Rodemacher and myself were stranded in Goodland after the van decided it wasn't taking us any farther. We spent most of the day calling family and friends, figuring out how we were getting back to St. Louis. We were saved by Dad Bill Perry who had a vehicle big enough to get all of us and our luggage all the way back to St. Louis. Well while Katie and I were looking around the town we saw a huge version of Van Gogh's Sunflowers. There are six paintings on six of the seven continents and Goodland was chosen for this cool honor. The painting is huge and if you are ever near Goodland....I can't believe I'm saying this.....try to stop by. It's really cool. Now that I know about the Van Gogh, I guess when we were stuck there it was Van No Gogh. We arrived in Colorado Springs around 1 pm, got unpacked and set up the Sales table. We visited with folks from all around and I've had a great time catching up with old friends.
That's about it for tonight folks. Time for me to hit the hay. Talk to you tomorrow, or more accurately, later today ;) Good Night. |

Dad Goede trying to solve the jigsaw puzzle in the Sales Room |
Just a quick good morning today. Mom Toni is off to her Board Meeting, Kim is at the Performing Arts Competition as a committee member and Katie is there as a judge. I will be heading to the Supreme Session Sales room where I will be for most of the day. Take care and I will check back in later on.
Hi all, it's Kim and thought I would give a brief update of the day. Katie and I had the opportunity to judge for performing arts. I judged dance and Katie judged Speech and Theatre. There were a lot of very talented daughters and I am proud of not only the Missouri Girls but all the Job's Daughters. I sat at the Ways & Means table for the afternoon and Katie was helping at the Miss International Registration table. Tonight also showcased many of the daughters who competed in performing arts. Elise Ardrey of Bethel #49 was selected for her vocal solo. Many of the Missouri Daughters won awards which we hope to have posted soon.
A huge thank you to everyone from Missouri and Idaho for helping put together the bags for after the Friday presentation for Supreme Session 2011. There were 500 bags and it was great that everyone was able to help out. You all are amazing!! I will turn it back over to Dad Ashley.
Hey there, I am back. I am going to try to catch up on some shout-outs. First of all Sue Collier-Brannin sends this message
Thanks Sue, I will pass along your message. Next, Claire Lindsey, Grand Bethel Secretary/Treasurer, sends this message via Facebook:
Thanks Claire. Claire is a long-time friend and has always been very involved with Job's Daughters. Her daughter Heather is a PHQ of Bethel #29 in Independence, Missouri We also got some breaking news from Laurie Lenhardt, PHQ, MM #43. Laurie tells us that . . .
Thanks Laurie and congratulations to Gloria and her husband Karl. Looks like a new Jobie-To-Bee has entered the world. The next shout-out goes to Nancy Garibay who writes:
Thanks Nancy. Nancy is a good friend and the mom of Meghan Garibay, PSBHQ 2005-2006. Well Nancy, actually yes, there have been some pretty heavy thunderstorms. A few of the tours have come back a bit damp so you might want to bring an umbrella or two. Of course now that I've said that, watch it dry out for the rest of the week. I guess that really wouldn't be a bad thing though, now would it? The next shout-out goes to Brettney Nelson, GBJP-IN who writes on Facebook:
Thanks Brettney. I really appreciate it. Giving people a sense of being at Supreme Session is what I am attempting to do, so your letter really makes me happy. Our next shout-out goes to Carol Titus, PHQ-IN who writes on Facebook:
Thanks Carol. I know what it's like when you want to see your friends from around the world but are unable to do so. Glad I could help a little bit. That's about it for now. I will be talking to you later. |

Doc Howe on a rampage |
Hey all, I am at the HIKE Dance, and the joint is rocking. It has been a busy and fun-filled day. My day started at the Session Sales room where we were madly selling our ways and means items. Sales have been good, especially the new Hoodie. We are already out of several sizes and only have a few of any size left. Mom Toni was back at it with the Board Meeting. These meetings can be very long and involved, but the people involved do some really good work and they deserve a big thank you for their dedication to the Order. Kim actually went to Denver today for her work, so she was killing two birds with one stone. Katie was very busy with the Miss International Job's Daughter Competition so all us Underwood's were scattered to the four winds.
I had a meeting with the Ritual Revision today about putting the proposed Ritual changes on the Supreme Website. They will be posted on September First and there will be a form for your comments. I cannot stress enough how important it is for everyone to take a look at them and give your opinion on them. As I say about voting in elections, if you don't vote, then don't complain about the results, so please, the Ritual Revision Committee has worked very hard on this and they really want your feedback. I also went to the HIKE Coordinator Meeting today. This is where the various HIKE Coordinators around the country get the new information about the new HIKE programs for the year. We also premiered a new HIKE Song for the 25th Anniversary of HIKE. The Colorado HIKE Choir performed it at the meeting and then later that evening they along with Katie performed it for the HIKE Dance. It went over well, and I imagine it well be played again at next years HIKE dance. Tonight was the Masonic Dinner and meeting. I
attended the dinner and had a wonderful time. We had a big Missouri
contingent there, and our table included Lon Goede, Brad Hudson, Doc
Howe, Ralph Schmidt, Loma Frakes, Stan Johnson, John Vezeau, Dave
Haywood and Larry Lynch. We enjoyed a great steak dinner and the
conversation at the table was even better than the food. While we were
there, the Colorado HIKE Choir and the Colorado Bethel #43 Choir
performed. They were very good and received big rounds of applause from
all of the Masons in attendance.
Right now I am sitting at the HIKE Dance at a table of Missouri Daughters and adults. A couple of the girls aren't dancing, though. Mary Johnson, PHQ #43 and Kelsey Moore, PHQ #4, are a little under the weather. Apparently Pike's Peak and Mary don't mix very well, and the flashing lights have gotten to Kelsey, but they are still here supporting HIKE. What troopers. When you see them, make sure to give them a pat on the back. Speaking of a pat on the back, Mom Joleyne Nelson received a HIKE Volunteer Award this evening. Congratulations to her for continuing Missouri's tradition of supporting the HIKE Fund. I will be signing off now. My battery is seriously low (both the computer battery and my own ;) I will see you all in the morning. Good night. |

Good morning everyone. Getting ready for another busy day at Supreme Session. The SGC Business Sessions start today. In addition the Formal Banquet and Formal Opening are this evening. Okay, gotta run and get the Session Sales Table running and then on to the business session. Bye for now. Hey all it's Kim. Today was the All Job's Daughters Lunch. Nice meal with a scrapbook project. Thanks to Judy Royce, BG #47 for putting mine together! They also announced the Ritual and Arts & Crafts Awards. I'm actually missing the Arts & Crafts so I can come and update everyone on ritual. Brittany Hall #19, Lilly Flannery #33, Katie Tevenbaugh #49, Amy Bush #49, Becca Hairer #49, Brianna Hall #19 and Elise Ardrey #49 all won awards. You can check it out at the bottom of the page under Missouri Awards. The Missouri Ritual Team didn't place but we know they did an outstanding job and are very proud of all of them. To Elise, Katie, Amy, Becca and Audrey plus alternate Brianna, thank you all for your hard work. We love you and are extremely proud of you! The Formal Banquet was held this evening. I sat with several of the good folks from Wisconsin. It was fun catching up with old friends and reminiscing about Supreme Session from 2008. After that it was time for the Formal Opening. I served as the Host as well as the musician. Actually I was only supposed to play for Katie as she sang When You Believe and The Millennium Prayer, but once I got over there, the Supreme Musician asked me to keep playing, so I did. Katie sounded wonderful on her songs and many people commented on how good she was. It was a long evening, but a fun one. The Missouri girls were in several of the marches and ceremonies. The Flag Ceremony was well done. The Necrology Ceremony was held, and it was very moving. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. Since I mentioned the Necrology Ceremony, this would be a good time to talk about the Associate Supreme Guardian who succeeded me, Bob Thurman. Bob passed away a couple of weeks ago and he will be greatly missed. I first met Bob when he and I both stood for Supreme Outer Guard in 2000 at the Boise Supreme Session. I was lucky enough to win the election. Later that day, after I has run through one of the outdoor fountains as I had promised the Missouri Girls I would do if I won, Bob was there watching us. I went over to talk to him and urged him to run again the following year. He said he would and sure enough, the next year in Kansas City, he was elected as Supreme Outer Guard. Bob as a wonderful Supreme Line Officer, and as many of us know, he marched to the beat of his own drum. Many times when we were planning something or would be going somewhere, Bob would be out doing his own thing and we would say, "What About Bob," just like the movie of the same name. He did a great job as Associate Supreme Guardian, and everywhere he went, people really liked him. Last year at the Supreme Session in Richmond, Virginia, Bob was ill, but still managed to attend. We talked for a while and his spirit was still intact and he was raring to go. Over the course of the next year Bob's health worsened until the evening of July 25 when Bob passed away. When I heard the news I send more that a few tears. Then I remembered all of the good times we had together and I had to smile. His spirit is still with us and still intact. He will be missed but never forgotten.
After the Formal Opening, we returned to the hotel
for our Missouri Pizza Party. We all wished Miss Missouri Katee
good luck for the upcoming Miss International Job's Daughter Pageant.
After that we had pizza, soda-pop and a lot of fun. Actually so
much fun at we nearly got through out of the atrium where the party was
held. We were told to quiet down as there were people sleeping in
the rooms near the Atrium. SLEEPING!!! During Supreme
Session? I never heard of such a thing, lol. Well, we
quieted down, finished our party and went back to our rooms to get a bit
of sleep.
That's about it for now. Talk to you later. |

. . . At the Men of Job Luncheon |
Good morning everyone, Miss Kim here live from the Supreme Bethel Meeting.....shhh, don't tell anyone. :) The new Supreme Bethel Honored Queen is Courtney Painter from Delaware. She is also Miss Delaware and since a daughter cannot hold the title of SBHQ and Miss International, we will let you know after the Miss International Pageant who the new members of the Supreme Family are. We are at the beginning of Representatives but Missouri already has a Supreme Bethel Officer! Amy Bush of #49 was selected as Supreme Bethel 3rd Messenger. More to come as the meeting continues. Our next Supreme Bethel Representative is Elise Ardrey, who is rep to Kentucky. Elise just told me that Brooklyn put a spell on her right before that said she would be the rep to Kentucky...ha ha it worked. The Supreme Bethel Representative to Missouri is Brynn Johnson from Alaska. Missouri got selected a third time and it goes to... Mary Johnson of #43, who is Supreme Bethel Representative to Rio de Janeiro. And now we have a Supreme Bethel Installing Flag Bearer for the Australian Flag and it is Katee Leonberger from #43. I went to the Men of Job Luncheon today. We had a great crew and had a wonderful time. They had one of the Bethel Choirs perform and they were excellent. In addition, on of the Masons present did a special poem for Associate Supreme Guardian Dave Robblee that was very moving.
Later, the Missouri-Idaho Jurisdictional Dinner was held. There was a great turnout. Missouri's Grand Guardian, Mom Sandy Flanery and Associate Grand Guardian, Dad Stan Johnson, made presentations to Mom Toni and Dad Rick. Mom Toni got a really cool travel bag for all of her Road Trips. Dad Rick received a special Stan Johnson edition Hawaiian Shirt and wild tie. In addition, Idaho's Grand Guardian Mom Barbara Mahoney and Vice Associate Grand Guardian Bob Mahoney made presentations as well. Mom Toni and Dad Rick received beautiful "Love Is" jewelry boxes and Idaho's Supreme Officer Karen Musselman received a humorous Officer's Jewel. During the dinner, Mom Julia Wallace was showing how she had learned to make a chicken out of a napkin. It was a bit scrawny looking, and while she was doing it, one of the waiters came up behind her and had this look on his face like, "What the heck is she doing." Mom Wallace was embarrassed and hid under her napkin as you can see below.
Hey there everybody. Kim here. Just wanted to check in for a bit. I won't stay long as I have a lot of stuff to do before tomorrow. The Miss International Job's Daughter Pageant was held this evening. Miss Missouri Katee Leonberger was our candidate and she did a wonderful job. She won the Ritual Recitation contest. Unfortunately she wasn't chosen as Miss International, but she still made Missouri Proud with the way she represented both the Jurisdiction and herself. Thank you Katee for a wonderful job. The New Miss International Job's Daughter is Aline Busnardo from Goias, Brazil. This is the first time that a Miss International has been from Brazil. Congratulations to her and good luck for the coming year.
From what we understand, it seems that Katee's room was redecorated by some little gremlins. You can see the participants and results below.
After all of that, the Missouri Crew headed to Denny's for some late night conversation, dinner and fun. Everybody had a great time as you can see from the pictures below.
That's about it for now. It's time to hit the sack. Good Night everybody. |

The Past Supremes pose for a group picture |
Hey everybody. I hope that you are all doing well. This day started very early, especially considering that last night ended very late. The Supreme Elections were held today. Below are the results:
The newly elected Supreme Marshal's daughter is Heather Reardon, who was the Supreme Bethel Honored Queen when I was the Associate Supreme Bethel Guardian during Mom Marilee Smiley and Dad Bill Dinkmeyer's term. That is kind of neat. Congratulations to all of the newly elected officers and Board members. I know that they will all do a great job. I had lunch today at the Grands and Past Grands Luncheon. As usual the food was good and the company even better. We have a good contingent of Missouri Past Grands here and we all had a wonderful time at the Luncheon. Following lunch, it was time for our 2011 Session Presentation before the afternoon Business Meeting. We started out with a video presentation about all of the various tours for the Session. After that, a funky beat started and all of the Missouri and Idaho girls came in with their pom pons, displaying great Jobie Spirit. They really pumped up the audience. Then Becca Hairer and Caitlyn Washington performed a short skit about the upcoming session. They did a great job. After that we handed out the bags that we had stuffed on Monday evening. Thanks to everybody who took part in the presentation. Everybody really enjoyed it and they are really excited about coming to St. Louis next July. Following the afternoon Business Session, I attended the Past Supremes Dinner. We had a good dinner and initiated Mom Marilyn Olson and Dad Bob Clore into the Past Supremes Club. The Initiation was a lot of fun and I think that Marilyn and Bob enjoyed it as much if not more than everybody else. Following the dinner, I came back to the room to play some major catch-up on the Session Diary. Mom Toni went to the Supreme Bethel Installation. Later on she had a Board Meeting, a Supreme Deputies Meeting and a new Officers Meeting. Such is the life of a Supreme Line Officer. A series of meetings. I remember one time somebody mentioned to me that I had been to a lot of beautifly locations for Supreme Session. That is true, but unfortunately during my time in Supreme Line, mostly what I saw was the inside of meeting rooms. I'm not complaining because my time in line was fantastic. Just letting people in on some of the little realities of life in the Supreme Line.
I have a lot of shout-outs to get to now. First of all, to Colleen Vezeau again. She writes::
Thanks Colleen. This actually came in on the fourth, so I am guessing Colleen had to put on a jacket since the temperature dropped down into the 90's :). Actually it has been a bit cool here, but of course we are up in the mountains so that is to be expected. The meeting rooms have been downright cold, but it keeps you alert, lol. The next shout-out goes to Julia Kitsmiller, PGBHQ-MO and the daughter of my good friend Jeff Kitsmiller, whom I mentioned earlier, writes on Facebook:
Thanks Julie, we are doing just that. We have had a blast here in the Rockies. The next shout-out goes to Sarah Heath, PHQ #49, writes us on Facebook:
Thanks Sarah for reading. I really appreciate it. You are absolutely correct. Our Supreme Messenger Team did a fantastic job. They worked very hard and did the very best they could. We are all so proud of them. The next shout-out goes to Ann Moore, Guardian Secretary of Bethel #4 in Missouri. Ann writes on Facebook:
Thanks Ann. Kelsey is having a great time. Kelsey is a PHQ of Bethel #4, and a Past President of SLALOC, which stands for St. Louis Area Line Officers Club. She has had a lot of fun, as have all of the girls here at Supreme Session. Next year, Ann, you will have a great time as well. Supreme Session is more that just a big Grand Session. It is a "Whole Nother Animal," but a very fun one to be around :) The next shout-out goes to Leslie Goodyear, PGG-Kansas. Leslie writes:
Thanks Leslie. The Kansas delegation has been very busy, and Jessica did a wonderful job at the Pageant. You are right, she is a very special young lady. We really haven't had a lot of rest as it has been a very busy session, but that is the nature of Supreme Session. There is so much to do that sometimes you have to sacrifice a bit of sleep to try to get it all in. The next shout-out goes to Jimi Moore from St. Louis. Jimi writes:
Thanks Jimi for the sarcastic note, lol. Jimi is a good friend and an excellent guitar player. We worked together on quite a few occasions and he is simply great on the guitar. The gig he mentions is my regular Wednesday night job at an establishment called the 1860's. I had to miss it last Wednesday because of Supreme so Jimi put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5, lol. Thanks again Jimi. I will tell Miss Ross that you said hi. The next shout-out goes to Leslie Klein, a PHQ from Ohio Leslie writes on Facebook:
Thanks Leslie. Glad you made it to Session in Chicago. That is where I was Installed as Associate Supreme Guardian. I think that all Job's Daughters should be able to make at least one Supreme Session. I know that's not possible but I sure wish it was. Next year in St. Louis will be fairly centrally located so hopefully we will get a lot of Daughters in attendance who might not otherwise have been able to make a Session. The next shout-out goes to the Bailey girls from Illinois. Sarah Bailey, PGBHQ - IL, Nancy Bailey, PHQ #63, and Kathy Bailey, PBG #63. They write:
Thanks girls. I really appreciate it. The L/T HIKE they mention is the Lincoln-Truman HIKE, which is a joint HIKE with Missouri and Illinois. It is in a different location every year, and this year it will be held on September 18th at Riverchase in Fenton, Missouri. The reception is the Supreme Guardian's Reception in St. Louis. The HIKE will be held in the morning and the reception that evening. I hope that a lot of people can attend both functions and make it a really great day. For more information on the activities, go to the Special Events Page on this website and there are flyers for both the HIKE and the Reception. Thanks Sarah, Nancy and Kathy, we will be seeing you there. The next shout-out goes to Tawnya Schultz, PGBHQ-Oregon, who writes:
Thanks Tawyna. I am so sorry for the passing of your husband. Please know that he is in the arms of the Lord. Glad that your niece joined Job's Daughters. I also hope you will be able to make Session in St. Louis. We have a lot of fun stuff planned and I think that both you and your niece would love it. Chicago is also still one of my favorite groups. I have seen them several time, including one time in conjunction with Supreme Session in Merrilville, Indiana. Both the concert and the Session were a blast. The next shout-out goes to Katheryn Neudecker, MM #50 in Missouri, now living in Ohio. Katheryn writes on Facebook:
Thanks Katheryn. Nope, no license, just a wild man on a scooter, lol. Katheryn is a good friend and her niece is a member of my home Bethel #12 in St. Louis. The scooter she mentions is one that I have been getting around on here in Colorado. It is actually Mom Nelda Kaeser's scooter, but she saw me hobbling around on my cane and took pity on me. She has her regular wheelchair here and let me borrow her motorized scooter for the week. That is beyond cool. Thank you Mom Nelda. It has really been a blessing. As many of you know I have severe arthritis in my knees and back, plus I have some vertigo issues and getting around can be a bit tough sometimes. Last year for the Session in Richmond, Virginia, Mom Toni and I took some extra time and visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland as well as the Gettysburg Battlefield in Pennsylvania. After that the Session, during which time my daughter Kim and I went to Mount Vernon, the home of our first President George Washington. On our way home I had hoped to visit Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, but my knees and back were so sore that I just couldn't do it. With being able to use Mom Nelda's scooter, while I am very tired, I am in much better shape than I was at this point last year. Thanks again to Mom Nelda and thanks to Katheryn for writing. That's about it for now. I will be talking to you later. |

Practicing the Flag Ceremony |
Hi Everyone! Miss Kim here writing from the hot spot for today, the Supreme Guardian Council practice. Currently the daughters of Idaho and Missouri are practicing for the bible ceremony and it's gonna be amazing! The officers and escorts have already had their practice. There are still a few things to do but I do want to thank all the folks of Missouri and Idaho who have helped make Mom Toni and Dad Rick's installation a success. I have a special thank you to Mom Judy Ray who really helped me by getting the inserts to the programs printed and finding people to help fold and put them together. Whoever you were, thank you so much! We will be back at some point with an update so stay tuned! The Supreme Installation was held tonight, and Mom Toni Underwood was Installed as the new Supreme Guardian while Dad Rick Holloway was Installed as the new Associate Supreme Guardian. It was a really nice Installation. As Kim mentioned above, the Bible Ceremony was fantastic. Katie sang One God while the Missouri Girls signed the song and the Idaho Girls did a formation on the floor. Everybody really enjoyed it. Mom Toni gave an excellent speech. I will have the text of it posted here in the next day or so. Both the Grand Master of Missouri and the Grand Master of Idaho were in attendance and both gave wonderful remarks.
Following the Installation I made some deliveries of items to Marilee Smiley and Susan Goolsby (don't ask me what they were, I was just the delivery boy, lol). Then I returned the scooter back to Mom Nelda, so I was back on foot. Once again I cannot thank Nelda enough. The use of the scooter really helped on the wear and tear on my knees and back. Then it was of to IHOP for some late-night dining. Diane Lynch, PGBHQ-MO went with us and we had a great time talking and eating. I had a chicken fajita omlette. It was either very good, or it was just that late at night when just about anything would be good. I guess I will have to do some more research.
Okay, I'm back at the hotel, I've done a bit of updating the website and now I am going to shut it down now. It is very late and I am exhausted. I am actually falling asleep here as I type. We hit the road tomorrow. Thanks for reading. I will talk to you later. |

Since we are in the Rocky Mountains, I guess it is only appropriate that we have a mountain of stuff to pack for the trip home ;) |
Hey all. Just getting up and we have a lot of work to do before we get out of here. I just wanted to post one quick shout-out before we begin our trip home. It is from Michele Karmeier, Guardian Secretary of Bethel #44 in Ballwin, Missouri, as well as the mom of PGHBQ Jennifer Hallahan. Michele writes on Facebook:
Thanks Michele. I will definitely do that. Last night was a fantastic experience. I know it is one that will live in Toni's heart forever. Well, it was tough getting up this morning. We were all very tired so we just slept in and figured we would get on the road at whatever time it happened to be. We took our time packing. Well, I say we, but actually I just pretty much tried to stay out of the way while Mom Toni, Kim and Katie packed. That is not my strong point. We finally got on the road a bit after 3:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
We stopped for dinner at our old stomping grounds, Goodland, Kansas. We went to the Dairy Queen, and apparently so did about 3/4 of the population of Goodland. It was a bit crowded and took a while to get our food, but when we did, it sure hit the spot. After that it was back on the road for the long trek across Kansas.
We rolled through Kansas and into Missouri around 2:00 a.m. Since it was now Monday Morning, I will continue this in the next section . . . |

. . . To fill up the cars |
Hello again, lol. We got gas in Oak Grove (just East of Kansas City). While we were there, Kim did some stretching exercises on the hood of her car. I guess that old ballet training never really goes away. Speaking of ballet, Katie did some dancing outsite of the QT. It was quite a sight at nearly 2:30 in the morning. Anyway, we gassed up, got some snacks, and hit the road again for the last leg of our Supreme Session Journey.
We hit St. Louis just before 6:00 a.m. and got home about 6:11. Kim and Katie got there a few minutes before Toni and I and were waiting for us. We did a bit of unpacking, but saved most of it for later. Our dog Molly was very happy to see us and covered us with doggie kisses. After a bit of that, it was time to hit the sack for a "nap."
This is where I usually do a bit of a wrap up but this time I thought that I would let Mom Toni do it through her address from the Supreme Installation. It sums up her hopes for the year and some of her feelings about Job's Daughters, both as an organization and the people involved in it. Here we go:
Okay, that's it for another Diary. I will just say thanks again to everybody for reading. I hope that everybody got at least a taste of what Supreme Session is about. Take care and we will be seeing you around the Job's Daughter world. |
